bearing the image.
We like to think bearing God’s image is something we control. As if it’s up to us to do it...if we’re being “good” people.
I think it’s something else completely.
God created us in His image in the very beginning, before any of us were even a thought in our parents minds.
So, WHEN is it that we bear His image?
Is it when we’re doing good, acting good, thinking good? Is it when other people approve of us? Of course not.
So, if it’s not then, how is it we only see God’s image in another person IF we approve of them?
I can just feel God wide eyed like, “you guys, that’s not what I meant.”
Bearing God’s image has nothing to do with us. God placed His image in all of us - not because we did anything to “deserve” it.
He simply wants us to open our eyes + hearts to SEE His image in all people.
This one shift makes all the difference in the world.
Instead of being quick to judge, we see God. Instead of acting condescending, we see God. Instead of acting superior, we see God. Instead of wanting to hurt, we see God. Instead of creating division, we see God. Instead of holding unforgiveness, we see God. Instead of withholding love, we see God.
If we could truly see that His eyes are shining back at us, what a beautiful world this would be.
I hope you’ll look for Him in everyone you meet today.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27
