voice

Who hears your voice, the words you speak?

They float on air, from here to there

A simple word can grow and grow

Becoming more, you’ll never know

We bring good news and sometimes scorn

Our words can take a drastic turn

They build one up and strengthen more

And tear apart and unadorn

Our voice is power for all it’s worth

The good and bad, the harsh and kind

A power that’s ours and ours alone

To lift or tear or kill or shine

Tis better to quiet and tap it down

Than rage and harm and flail around

The path our voice takes — a mystery

No navigation for us to see

Yet faith reminds us who’s in control

Tending the soil inside our souls

Our little part is to make it count

The voice they hear without a doubt

Renew, return, rebuild, restore

There’s always hope and an open door

You’ve never gone too far away

The bridge is solid and here to stay

Take heed my friend to this little truth

Pour beauty on life, in love and care

And the warmth of your voice be light and air
