Jesus was the original anti-narcissist
Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about narcissism.
Some of the things I’ve read are pretty alarming.
Narcissists take pleasure in manipulation, emotional abuse, mind games, and twisted word circles. They have total disregard for causing others to suffer. This heightened focus on self is incredibly pervasive; it touches and destroys every relationship.
It made me think about Jesus and how He is the complete opposite of all that.
He is love.
I mean, He literally gave up His life for us. It doesn’t get much more others focused than that.
Jesus was the original anti-narcissist.
And this is our model to follow.
He showed us how to walk and how to love, how to consider others as truly more important than ourselves.
Let these things be that simple to us…are we loving others by genuinely considering them first, or are we serving ourselves through manipulation, mind games, and tearing people down?
Just one single choice helps us to break the self-cycle…take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Do and think like Jesus, and while we’re at it, let’s lay down our lives too.
