God’s Approaching
When we think about how God works in our lives, mostly we notice His work
AFTER it’s done,
AFTER the trial has passed,
AFTER we’ve come through on the other side.
But wouldn’t it be incredible if we could see God approaching, if we could see His work about to unfold in our lives?
In Exodus 33:18-23, after Moses had been in a trial, he asks God to please show him His glory and God says “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”
Moses wanted to see God’s presence, and a lot of us yearn for the same thing in our own lives.
When we’re facing something difficult,
we want to know He’s there with us,
we want to know He sees us,
and we want to feel His presence and see His glory.
Trials, a lot of times, don’t come at us slowly…they’re there, right in front of us, and most of us never see them coming.
Whether it’s a job loss, marital problems, drug issues with our children, sin that we can’t seem to put away, disappointment, or bad health…a lot of things seem to come upon us suddenly.
I hope when these things happen to each of us, that we can realize more and more quickly that God’s approaching. He’s covering us with His hand, He’s protecting us, He’s guarding us.
And I think that as we trust in the Lord more and more, we will actually realize we are in the midst of His glory and He’s got us tucked in the cleft of the rock and covered by His hand. May we find peace and joy there as we see His back passing by.
