off the hook
Wouldn’t it be nice if people would let us off the hook?
If people just realized that we can’t do it right all the time?
We’re trying to do things right most of the time, but sometimes we don’t quite get there. And wouldn’t it be nice if people understood when we don’t come through?
I think we could breathe, if this was where we got to hang out in life.
What if our heart was “well, I don’t hold that against them.” Genuinely, for real, down deep. Man, what a beautiful gift we could give to people. That we would just let them off the hook and let them be.
Sometimes I think we keep people on the hook because we need someone to blame…for our behavior, our issues, our struggles, our fears, and our brokenness.
But, what good is blame anyway?
Blame gets us nowhere.
And don’t we all actually want to move forward, toward the hope of something greater, better, happier?
We can’t get there with blame…
I love the words from “Miracle” by Unspoken that say “have you stopped reaching, no longer seeking greater things, have you forgotten, you have a Father listening, He tells the sun when to rise, gives the wind it’s breath, swings a door wide open and moves in the moment you least expect.”
When we live in a way that SHOWS we let people off the hook for not being perfect, we’re reaching, seeking, remembering, that we have a Father listening.
It shows that we believe He will swing the door wide open and move in the moment we least expect.
