Lessons I Learned on the Commute
Look for signals from other people.
In all places and at all times, it’s great if we can be on the lookout for what other people are trying to tell us. Are they giving us clear signals showing us what they are about to do, what they want to do? Or do you just “feel” like they’re about to do something? Either way, look for those signals all the time, every day. It will put you in a place of knowing ahead of time what is about to happen.
And when you know ahead of time, you can actually be part of…
Extending grace to others…even if they don’t give you a signal.
You can be part of this, because you were in the habit of looking for signals. As you extend grace, by letting someone in ahead of you, by slowing down a bit because you see something about to happen up ahead, you can actually be a part of…
Showing that we’re truly in this together.
All of us want a good life, where we’re happy and loved. These common desires help us to know that we’re not alone. We can be a part of giving this kindness to others if we’ll just slow down a bit and realize that…
We’re not in a race and our actions actually affect other people.
It’s true. We might like to think that what we do doesn’t trickle over and touch other people beside us, but driving, life, and work don’t work that way. When we’re kind and think of other people ahead of ourselves, it changes things.
A kindness now exists in that space that affects people in a powerful way. It’s an intangible, right under the surface that leaves room for other people to reach out for it and offer the same to someone else.
It helps us to be human with each other.
And if we’ll just start here, what a great commute we can have.
